The Arbour

The award-winning Arbour was conceived as a horticultural wonder and has become a defining symbol of South Bank.  It is made up of 443 curling, tendril-like columns of steel, each covered with a train of vibrant magenta bougainvillea plants.

The stunning architectural masterpiece weaves through the centre of the parklands for one kilometre, leading the way to the parklands’ many attractions.

Amidst the colourful canopy of bougainvillea which has grown along the Arbour is a ribbon of yellow steel which provides shade and weather protection.

Pedestrians aren’t the only people to enjoy the splendour of the Arbour. The scenic walkway is also a popular route for runners and it has also been used in a number of sporting events, particularly fun runs.

The creative design of the Arbour has also seen it used as an art gallery with exhibitions hung from its majestic columns. Check the events calendar for any current exhibitions.

In the evening, the Arbour glows with colour thanks to mood lighting. Dedicated staff trim the bougainvillea weekly. The bougainvillea also undergoes an irrigation and insect control inspection and is lightly pruned to encourage growth.
