The award-winning Arbour was conceived as a horticultural wonder and has become a defining symbol of South Bank. It is made up of 443 curling, tendril-like columns of steel, each covered with a train of vibrant magenta bougainvillea plants. The stunning architectural masterpiece weaves through the centre of The Parklands for 1 km, leading the way to The Parklands’ myriad of attractions. Amidst the colourful canopy of bougainvillea growing along the Arbour is a ribbon of yellow steel which provides shade and weather protection. Pedestrians aren’t the only people to enjoy the splendour of the Arbour, with the scenic walkway a popular route for runners, sporting events and fun-run routes. The creative design of the Arbour inspired a hanging art gallery concept where exhibitions can be hung from its majestic columns. Check the events calendar for any current exhibitions. In the evening, the Arbour glows with colour and atmospheric mood lighting. Dedicated staff trim the bougainvillea weekly, tend to its irrigation and insect control inspection and lightly prune the foliage to encourage growth.
