Public art project on Grey Street by artist Elizabeth Woods:

Walking or driving along Grey Street will be a much more colourful experience this summer thanks to the efforts of artist Elizabeth Woods. To celebrate our love of nature, the beautiful tree lined boulevard of Grey Street will be transformed by the Queensland artist over a few weeks in early December.

Intended to draw your attention to the vital role our street trees play in our subtropical city, the artist has chosen to wrap the trees like a gift to the public in a brightly coloured fabric of a nylon elastin blend, “the temporary nature of the art installation allows people to converse about the changing face of our city, while also appreciating the existing beauty and immersive quality of the trees of Grey Street”.

The Tuckeroos, an Australian native tree,  are in good hands and will not be affected by the installation, “trees don’t breathe through their trunks so the wrapping will not harm  the trees in any way” the artist notes.
