Rain Bank Experience

6am - 10pm Daily

Ever wondered what’s happening beneath your feet as you walk through South Bank? Now you can see it for yourself.

Rain Bank is South Bank’s award-winning stormwater harvesting and reuse centre, first opened by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2011. It captures, stores and treats stormwater from a 30-hectare catchment across parts of West End and South Bank, supplying up to 85% of South Bank’s water needs – saving the equivalent of 30 Olympic-sized swimming pools every year.

A new interactive signage experience now brings this hidden system to life. At three locations across the South Bank, colourful periscope-style pipes let you peek underground and watch short animations revealing exactly what’s happening at each stage of the water’s journey.

Find the Rain Bank Experience at:

The S.H.I.P (Stormwater Harvesting Interception Pit), Riverside Green

Water Storage Tank, Liana Lounge

Plant Room, Rainforest Green

It’s a fun, hands-on way for the whole family to learn about water sustainability and the science behind South Bank’s best hidden secret.
