Free sandwiches have a way of getting our attention.
On Saturday 29 August, South Bank café and bar SHYSH is giving away 100 sandwiches, completely free, to celebrate a fresh chapter for the Grey Street favourite. From 11am to 1pm, the first 100 people through the door can claim a sandwich on the house. The only thing you need to do is follow @SHYSH.SB on Instagram and show the team when you arrive.
That’s it. No purchase, no complicated competition, just an early start and a free lunch.
And while the sandwich is a very good reason to stop by, it’s not the only thing that’s changed at SHYSH.
The café has been part of South Bank since 2020, but it’s now had something of a reset. There’s a fresh look, a bigger menu and longer opening hours, with the daytime café evolving into a spot that can carry you from your first coffee through to dinner.
The food is still grounded in the generous Lebanese hospitality SHYSH has become known for, with plenty of Middle Eastern flavour running through the new menu. Think chicken, lamb and mixed shawarma wraps, kafta, crispy falafel, grilled haloumi and arayes, alongside burgers, bowls and all the usual café favourites.
The Burger Bomb is the one that lives up to its name, stacking two beef patties with onion, mushroom and grilled tomato. For something a little more customisable, build your own bowl with rice, chips or salad, your choice of shawarma, grilled haloumi or falafel, then finish with garlic, tahini, hommos or baba ganouj.
Then things take a sweeter turn. Açai bowls arrive with granola, strawberry and banana, with sauces spanning Biscoff, Nutella, pistachio, peanut butter and passionfruit. There’s also a Dubai Chocolate Special, alongside Dubai Chocolate and Biscoff milkshakes for anyone who believes dessert is a perfectly acceptable beverage.
However, the biggest change happens when the sun starts to dip.
SHYSH is extending into evening service, reopening from 5pm to 9pm Monday to Thursday after its daytime trade. Fridays run from 6am to 10pm and Saturdays from 11am to 10pm, giving you plenty more opportunity to drop in beyond the traditional breakfast-and-lunch hours.
So yes, come for the free sandwich. Stay for the shawarma, açai, coffee, dinner plans and a look at what SHYSH is doing next.
Just be one of the first 100.
