There’s a new menu at Barbossa, which means it’s time to put the old favourites aside and make room for something new. The South Bank restaurant has added a mix of seafood, flame grilled meats, pasta and a meat free option, with plenty of dishes designed to share around the table.
From oysters and tiger prawns to jerk spiced lamb cutlets and a seafood platter loaded with all the good stuff, these are the six dishes we’d recommend adding to your order.
1. Chilled Tiger Prawns
We’ll always make room for prawns. Barbossa’s chilled tiger prawns are served with fresh lemon, mixed greens and cocktail sauce, keeping things simple and letting the prawns do the work. They’re an easy one to order for the table while you decide what’s coming next.
2. Pacific Oysters
The oyster order is an easy one. Barbossa is serving Pacific oysters natural or Kilpatrick, with lemon on the side. Choose six or 12, then let the table debate whether you should have ordered more.
3. Jerk Spiced Lamb Cutlets
For something off the grill, go for the jerk spiced lamb cutlets. They’re flame grilled and marinated in a fragrant blend of Caribbean spices, then served with coconut rice, charred pineapple, broccolini, mint yoghurt and tamarind sauce. It’s a generous plate with plenty of contrasting flavours.
4. Harissa Baked Cauliflower
Cauliflower takes a more interesting turn here, baked in a creamy, smoky harissa sauce and topped with dukkah. Served with roasted potato and a garden salad, it’s a hearty option that doesn’t feel like an afterthought.
5. Hot And Cold Seafood Platter
This is the order for anyone who has trouble choosing. The hot and cold seafood platter brings together grilled bugs with herb and garlic butter sauce, salt and pepper calamari, battered snapper, premium Pacific oysters and tiger prawns, alongside chips, garden salad and cocktail sauce. Basically, a little bit of everything worth having.
6. Chilli Garlic Prawn Fettuccine
Then there’s the pasta, because every good menu needs one. Barbossa’s chilli garlic prawn fettuccine pairs succulent prawns with fresh garlic and chilli, Napoli sauce and baby spinach. It’s comforting, full of flavour and likely to disappear quickly once it hits the table.
With a menu this varied, there’s plenty to work your way through next time you’re in South Bank. Just don’t be surprised if six dishes turns into seven once you start reading the menu. Book your table here.
