South Bank has a longstanding connection with the Nepalese community, from the iconic Nepalese Peace Pagoda to our partnership with the Nepal Australia Friendship Association (NAFA). Now, the precinct is coming together to support communities in Nepal following a devastating natural disaster.

On 26 August, a landslide and flash flood struck the Nepal-Tibet border region, leaving thousands of people facing immense challenges as communities begin the long road to recovery. As NAFA President Rod Setterlund OAM shared, “the human cost has been enormous”, with an estimated 93,000 people urgently requiring humanitarian assistance.

NAFA has launched an appeal to support affected communities, with 100% of donations going directly to NAFA-supported projects in Nepal. If you’d like to contribute, you can donate directly to the appeal here.

Closer to home, South Bank businesses are also finding ways to show their support.

At Pig ’N’ Whistle South Bank, the fundraiser is particularly personal for the team. With many Nepali team members at the venue, including Head Chef Deepak, the team is coming together to raise funds for communities affected by the disaster.

For a limited time, Pig ’N’ Whistle is serving two special Nepali dishes, with all profits donated to the Nepali Prime Minister’s flood relief fundraiser.

There’s Deepak’s Nepali Goat Curry for $29, made with boneless local goat, basmati rice and pappadums, or Onion Pakauda (Pakora) for $19, served with cabbage, chilli, potato and Nepali tomato chutney.
